There are a few releases worth talking about this week, though one of them is arguably only riding on the coattails of the associated movie. This week will, mostly., be dominated by the product announcements and trailers that come out of E3. Also, keep in mind that Duke Nukem Forever is supposed to come out next week, so that might actually be one of the signs of the Apocalypse or the Rapture or something. Even if I did play it last year at PAX, it still is some sort of miracle that the game is coming out.
inFAMOUS 2 – This is, obviously, the sequel to inFAMOUS, a single player open World game, exclusive to PS3. You get to play Cole MacGrath again, in a new city called New Marais modelled after New Orleans. The Beast is still a threat and Cole needs time to prepare for that confrontation and, also, save the world. This version of Cole’s got enhanced super powers and new hand to hand combat moves as well. An impoved morality system allows you to make choices that change the flow of the game and present you with two wntirely different endings to the game dependant on the choices you make in the course of the game.
Red Faction Armageddon – This is the fourth installment in the Red Faction series and will be relaesed in Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows. This installment modifies the previous game’s tools and weapons and features a new co-operative Extermination mode, which has up to four players teaming up to fight against unrelenting waves of increasingly challenging alien bad guys. The game takes place on the planet Mars. It is set in the year 2170, fifty years after the events of Red Faction: Guerrilla and your character is the grandson of the heroes of the character in the last game. The marketing for this game has been pretty instense, including a SyFy direct to television movie.
Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters – The tie-in game to the Green Lantern movie, will cover another piece ofGreen Lantern history. The Manhunters were created by the Guardians to create an interstellar robotic police force to combat evil. After thousands of years, the robots became preoccupied, almost obsessed, with hunting criminals. Their code, “No man escapes the Manhunters” became more important to them than seeing justice done. The video game has the Manhunters back, looking for revenge against the Green Lanterns who replaced them. There is very little information about the actual game play but Ryan Reynolds did provide the voice of Hal Jordan.
Operation Flashpoint: Red River – This is a sequel as well to Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. In this game, the player(s) assume control of Outlaw-2-Bravo, A United States Marine Corps fireteam during a fictional conflict in Tajikistanin 2013. The game is a tactical shooter, much the same as the first game, except for a lack of a competitive multiplayer functionality. There are four classes to choose from and you will be able to gain experience which can be used to unlock guns, attachments and other perks. The game has received mixed reviews but there don’t seem to be any that would stop me from buying this game if I liked the first one.
