Coachella To Go Two Weekends

Editor correction: The official website has the show planned for two consecutive weekends.

It’s not often we cover breaking news at the Bunker but this morning it was announced to the LA Times that the Coachella Valley Music Festival will extend to two weekends. However, the plan is to have the same acts both weekends. This isn’t an attempt to create a two week festival, it’s adding a second night because the show sold out. Except the show is a weekend long festival involving a giant campsite, hundreds of vendors and hours of police overtime.

No word yet on what this means for Stagecoach, which is run by the same production company; Goldenvoice. Stagecoach traditionally runs the weekend after Coachella, featuring country music acts as a counter point to Coachella’s rock and roll festivities.

Heat is also a huge factor at both festivals, and they were both later in the calendar this year then they were last year. Weekend two could set records for heatstroke. It will be interesting to see how the performers handle the two weekend commitment, possibly filling in the week gap with time in Los Angeles.

On a positive note, Goldenvoice stands to make a lot of money, so there’s that.
