From the “is this cool or is this lame” department, comes this trailer of Age of the Dragons which is the classic Herman Melville novel Moby Dick, but with a dragon instead of a whale.
Yes, really.
It also stars Danny Glover as Ahab. Don’t believe me?

What does it all mean? I don’t know. This is obviously a lower budget feature that was shot almost entirely in Utah. The special effects look carefully done, but not of the highest quality.
Have you heard much about this? I would have missed it completely but for the folks at the always watchful for the weird, Undead Backbrain.

Consider me intrigued on this one. Love Danny Glover and I’m always up for an interesting take on a classic story.
I’ll probably be checking this one out. I usualy dig movies that look like that. Non seq: I’ve decided that my favorite part of any movie preview is the music.
Wow. That was… awful. I am almost always willing to give a movie about dragons a flying chance (ha, ha) but the half-naked token Hot Warrior Chick makes me cringe and I find the almost complete lack of dialogue to be suspicious. If there’s no sense of coherency in the preview, how likely is it that there will be any in the movie itself? I’m a strong supporter of trailers that tell a little mini-story themselves, or at least hint that there IS a story. Sure, the text SAYS it’s a dragony version of Moby Dick, but it does very little to emphasize that story. There are more shots of not-on-the-original-story Hot Warrior Chick’s semi-nude form than there are of Ahab. You know, that random background character who had some grudge against a whale dragon.
Unless they come out with a better, more coherent trailer that indicates that there will be an actual, non-porn storyline, I’m staying far away from this one. I like Danny Glover and I love dragons, but there are limits, yo.
