emmy

When the Emmy Award Nominations were announced two months ago, I made my predictions for the Big 10 categories. Now that the ceremony is over, I’m back to report on just how good my prognosticating skills are.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. “Nurse Jackie?” NOT A COMEDY! Boo, Emmys. Boo. To her credit, Edie agrees with me.

Who I Said Would Win: Neil Patrick Harris
Who Did Win: Eric Stonestreet
Elwood Was: WRONG!

Didn’t see that one coming. I’m not going to lie. I love Eric on “Modern Family,” but NPH has been better, and for longer. Maybe next year, Neil. At least you got the consolation prize – Best Guest Actor in a Comedy for “Glee.”

I did call this for “Glee,” but I also said that “‘Modern Family’ [would] be nipping at its heels.” So, I’m okay with the win for “Modern Family.” It’s one of my favorites.

cranston 150x150 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards: And the Winner Is…Best Actor In A Drama:

  • Kyle Chandler, “Friday Night Lights”

  • Matthew Fox, “Lost”
  • Michael C. Hall, “Dexter”
  • Jon Hamm, Mad Men
  • Hugh Laurie, “House”

Who I Said Would Win: Bryan Cranston
Who Did Win: Bryan Cranston
Elwood Was: RIGHT!

If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s consistent Emmy voting in the Drama category. Everyone else, Cranston won’t be eligible next year because of the timing of the current season, so you all need to bring your “A” Game next year. Except you, Fox. Sorry.

  • Christina Hendricks, “Mad Men”
  • Elisabeth Moss, “Mad Men”
  • Archie Panjabi, “The Good Wife”

Who I Said Would Win: Elisabeth Moss
Who Did Win: Archie Panjabi
Elwood Was: WRONG!

I’m fine being wrong here. I like Archie Panjabi a lot on “The Good Wife.” I suspect Hendricks and Moss’ votes cancelled each other out.

Tale of the Tape: I finished 4 for 10.

Hey…batting .400 isn’t that bad, but I’ve done better. Probably won’t ever beat the .930 I scored for the 1992 Oscars, though.

I liked Jimmy Fallon as the host, but he needs to cut back on the musical numbers a little, and maybe put The Roots in the orchestra pit. Also, really sad that Conan O’Brien didn’t win for “The Tonight Show” but I’m just cynical enough to presume that there were some politics involved there, since the Emmys were telecast on NBC. Wouldn’t want to broadcast having their noses rubbed in it, would they?

Congratulations to all of tonight’s winners! We’ll do this again next year.
