If you’re reading this, odds are you have clocked in some serious time in some IHOP or other. Whether you were there arguing about Blackest Night into the wee hours or stopped in after catching the midnight premiere of Harry Potter, you’ve drunk the bad coffee; you’ve gone into a carb-coma on pancakes; but have you gone so far as to actually have a plate plunked down in front of you containing a menu item that’d leave the KFC Double Down looking like Nicole Ritchie next to Roseanne at her fattest and angriest?
I refer, of course, to the innocently-enough-named Pancake Stacker. It sounds like a stack of pancakes – nothing that generations of people haven’t been consuming in healthy moderation for generations. What it actually is… are you ready for this? It’s put together like pancake – CHEESECAKE – pancake – PIE FILLING – whipped cream. That sounds to me like the kind of thing a bunch of 8 year olds would get in trouble for putting together after raiding the fridge at 3 in the morning during a slumber party.
I went in search of the nutritional information just to see in hard numbers some proof that if you’re going to get up in arms about the fast food item that is Making America Fat, this is it, but I was met with this:
“Currently we do not offer this information…IHOP offers a wide variety of food that should allow most people to choose a meal that suits their dietary needs. ”
I’m pretty sure there is no diet that requires anyone to eat 2 pancakes, some cheesecake, pie filling, butter, powdered sugar, whipped cream, and/or syrup as part of a balanced meal. Unless of course, your aim is to perpetuate the stereotype of the fat geek in the basement…

MMMMMM! Diabetes tastes GOOD!
[brimley] My doctor said I don’t have Diabeetus, but I look like someone who should. [/brimley]
When I saw the commercial for this the other night, I felt like throwing up a little bit. It’s just the thing we need in a country with an obesity epidemic, innit?

This hurts just reading about it. It’s like the Kwanzaa cake of Sandra Lee.

I like cheesecake. I like pancakes. The two of them together? Not so much. Although after three months of Ecuadorian food or the rice/beans/quinoa at the farm (great cooks have helped a lot), I might stop by IHOP on my way home from the airport. Kidding of course… what I really want is a vegetarian Ruben from Fleetwood Diner.
By the way, I love we have added food and products to the pop cultureness of the site. EPOCH additions.
