I saw the original Tron movie for the first time a few weeks ago because it came up in (of all places) my long-form fiction class, and a couple of the guys I sit next to were shocked that I had no idea what they were talking about. The movie was cheesetastic from a 21st-century POV, of course, but I really enjoyed it for the masterpiece is obviously was when it first came out. So, I was thrilled to see that not only are they making a new Tron movie, but that it's going to be available in IMAX 3D, which is quickly becoming my favorite way to watch a new release. I had the pleasure of seeing the IMAX 3D Tron trailer when I went to a showing of "Alice in Wonderland" last week, and I have to say, it's looking to be pretty epic.

You have a good point there. Looking back at 2009, between District 9 and Star Trek it's definitely in the popular culture again. They were so overpowered by the Avatar juggernaut, it's easy to overlook sometimes. I personally place Avatar more in the fantasy genre. Crossing fingers for a good "Black Hole" remake.

I think that sci-fi has been on a huge upswing since "Battlestar" came back. "Star Trek" sealed it, and aside from the "Avatar" speed bump...it's a new age. :)

Between Inception and this film, provided they both come through on their promise, could 2010 be the resurgence of sci-fi?
