One thing that I am not is one of the 1,177,875 followers of @shitmydadsays. You know who does follow? CBS, that’s who, as evidenced by the fact that the broadcast network is going to make a television show out of the twitter feed. Yes, that is correct, there will be a tv show based off a twitter feed. I guess I jealous of Justin Whatshisname that started the account an (allegedly) tweets the sometimes crazy things that his father says.
One time for New Years I went with some friends to a comedy club. The opening act was this little old lady whose comedic talent was cussing. She came out on stage, dropped “fuck” about sixteen times in fifty seconds and the crown was roaring. After that initial onslaught, everyone realized it was not funny – it was just some old lady cussing. That is similar to how I felt about the twitter stream of @shitmydadsays.
But.
CBS has cast T.J. Hooker to star as “Dad” in the tv version of Shit My Dad Says. I can only hope that will be the actual title. Obviously by T.J. Hooker, I am referring to William Shatner and of course William Shatner starred as Cdr. Buck Murdock in Airplane II.
Back to T.J. Hooker for a moment. How awesome would it be if “Dad” really was the retired T.J. Hooker? Then the show could be called Old Hooker. Which also has a nice ring to it. CBS could avoid the expletive while maintaining a cool name. I can get behind that.
Seriously, though, if there is one thing that would make me watched a show based on a twitter stream, it is probably William Shatner. As for the T.J. Hooker tie-in? CBS, you may make out the check to:
