A funny thing about me: I hesitate to write about the things I really, really love*. It seems incomprehensible that I have not written anything about Dexter or 30 Rock although they are the only tv shows I watch with regularity and both are up there on my favorite tv shows ever. Similarly I have yet to write about Poe too much or my love of the fantasy novel The Name of the Wind. My love of these things help define me. It is strange I don’t write more about them.
Anyway, the reason that I started thinking about this is that this post that you’re reading right now is going to be the first one where I mention the Showtime series, Dexter. And then only to offer the book that inspired the series as a prize. The book is called Darkly Dreaming Dexter.
About the book: The Dexter character in the tv show deviates considerably from the novelized inspiration. Many plot elements from the first book are found throughout all four seasons of Dexter, but there is no word-for-word retelling in any of the seasons or episodes. The novel and tv show do share the same spirit – even if the Dexter in the book is slightly less human and likeable than Michael C. Hall’s award winning interpretation.
