We’re seeing a lot of controversy about the choice to cast Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively as Carol Ferris in the upcoming Warner Bros. Green Lantern movie. I admit, I’m not familiar with Ms. Lively’s work, but I just look at her and think she is no Carol Ferris. It’s not just the blonde hair. That could be dyed or wigged-over. No, her sleepy eyes and soft angles are a mismatch too.
Personally, I don’t know what Mia Kirschner is up to these days, but come on, she looks the part, right?
What do you think? Do you like Blake Lively for the part, or have a better dream-Carol?

Being a girl has its perks in this crowd. The Baroness gets to cut in line at geek parties.
Blake Lively? OH HELL NO! Don’t get me wrong. I like the Gossip Girl. But she really doesn’t have that “Ferris” quality. What I’ve seen of her, she’ll try too hard for the edge that Carrol naturally has and make a lot of us who are fans of Star Sapphire grown and demand a reboot and do over. There are any number of women out there who would be vastly better to pull this role off. The Baroness was even kind enough to give us an example!

I love Blake and have long wanted to see her cast in a superhero movie…this isn’t really the role I would’ve chosen for her, but I’m willing to wait and see. (The choice I actually object more to is Ryan Reynolds, but I suppose that’s a discussion for another time
I also love Mia Kirshner, but I dunno if she’s an exact fit, either — looks-wise, sure, but the vibe’s a little off? My friend Caroline suggested Eva Green, who strikes me as a fairly perfect choice. That’s just my take!
What bothers me the most about this whole thing, though, is some of the over-the-top bile directed in Blake’s direction (not from this post or any of the comments, just on the internet in general) — cause, ya know, she has a big pile of blonde hair and stars on a show called Gossip Girl. Didn’t we just spend all week talking about the various ways people judge women and why the judging is stupid? Gah.
My Blake love makes me slightly irrational on this point, though, so I’m using all the self-control I can muster to STAY OUT OF THIS INTERNET ARGUMENT.

I don’t know what gossip girl is. Up until this post I thought it was a blog or a console game or something. The girl sure is cute enough, but who isn’t as far as actresses go? Can’t be as bad as Bassinger in the first Keaton Batman. Right?
I’m ashamed to say I saw Batman in the theater, and maybe one time since, so I’m not qualified to comment.
