Latino Review is reporting Avatar and Terminator: Salvation star Sam Worthington will be playing… Dracula. In a movie called Dracula: Year Zero which I assume is the 2000 year prequel to Dracula 2000.
Um.
What?
Worthington seems like an OK chap. He did call out McG* for sloppy filmmaking in Terminator: Salvation and he comes off as genuine in interviews. But come on! The guy is better off playing a vintage Terminator that shows no emotion. The range Worthington has shown starts at blank and ends at puzzled – roughly equivalent to the talent of a clam.
*Let’s see him try that with Cameron. Even if he has some stories, they’re probably tied up in some trippy Cameron-specific non-disclosure.
I ask you: Can a clam play Dracula? Not unless it is Dracu-clam I answer.
Expect more of these stories to break regarding Avatar cast members being given the push in hopes of finding a huge bankable star. Zoe Saldana (Neytiri) is already slated for four movies to be released in 2010 to go along with Worthington’s rising star. I have two words for ya:
Edward Furlong.
