That looks like the best parts of OG-KK 1&2 in one movie. Not sure I’d see it in the theater, but it would shoot to the top of my NetFlix queue for sure.
HA! I know. It’s kind funny to look at it that way at first since Pat Morita knew as much about karate as of running a teen hang-out in the 1950s. Chan is the real deal.
One major issue that the martial arts geek in me is pissed at is that Jackie Chan is Chinese and has studied mostly Wing Chung, Mantis, and Shaloin martial arts. Chinese martial arts are Kung-fu, Karate is a Japanese martial art. Chan is Chinese teaching martial arts to Smith in China. The original idea to rename the film “The Kung Fu Kid” would have not only made sense, but is almost necessary.
Honestly… in retrospect… it does not look nearly as bad as I expected. It looks watchable and maybe even OK.
I would watch it if it came on TV at this point. I couldn’t see myself going out of my way to see it, but it’s not something I would turn off.
I agree that it’s a lot more interesting than I thought it would be.

The flyswatter sold me.
Shame that it will lack Elisabeth Shue, however. Old crushes die hard.

It would be a completely different movie if aged 11 Jaden Smith were to hook up with aged 46! Elisabeth Shue
But yeah, I love Allie to this day.
First reaction: The Karate Kid without Pat Morita is not The Karate Kid.
Then I saw Jackie Chan and now I’m reevaluating my entire belief system.
