Here I Go – From the wonderful Beneath The Trees album.

Fog of Reality – From the new release There is no Such Thing as Time and Space

Death by Cheerleader – This is a brilliant instrumental endeavor from the Samford project, The Birthday Jennies.

I love music and I listen to all kinds, but I don’t have the greatest ear for music and lyrics. Typically I have to listen to something a lot or with a single-minded concentrated effort to give any type of coherent breakdown. Otherwise it is easier to take the lazy and easy way out and describe something in mad libs like, _______ and _______ with _______. I don’t think Andy Samford would mind if I were to say that his projects range from Pink Floyd to Black Sabbath with KISS or perhaps Alice Cooper mixed in.

I think Samford draws a lot from music he admires, yet he has the knack of twisting things and punching them together to fit his own whims and musical needs. There is considerable amount of soul searching, yearning, and whimsy in Samford’s music. There is also an abundance of come-by-legitimately psychodelia. In fact the latter would have to be the one persistent trait in all of Andy Samford’s music through his various projects as paired styles range from rock & roll to metal.

In the interest of full disclosure, I’ve “known” Andy for some time via a few online forums. Andy is based out of Atlanta, Georgia, but has toured a wider area with some of the projects in which he is involved.

The best thing is that Andy makes his music available for free at his online label www.electricminnowmusic.com. I have a few suggestions on what to try first:

The newest solo release There is No Such Thing as Time and Space

and

Anthology 1998-2006

I had to email Andy to get his paypal address. He does not even have a donation or purchase option on the Electric Minnow Music site. When I told him I was going to write this post, he wanted to make sure that I knew and related that all of his music was “free.” I do understand that, but I get a lot of enjoyment out of his music which always seems to end up on my ipod. In fact, I became most familiar with Andy’s stylings when consistently checking the ipod to, “see who that is.” I kept thinking perhaps a Floyd song that I didn’t know or something by the Legendry Pink Dots; often it was an Andy Samford project.

If you enjoy Andy’s music like I do, then you can paypal him a donation of your choice. His paypal account is asamford23 at gmail dot com.
