My wife and I don’t celebrate holidays at all. We don’t even celebrate our birthdays beyond, perhaps, one of us making dinner for the other on the night. Christmas for the last several years nets no decorations, nor gifts for ourselves, friends, or family. In all it is a much more peaceful way of being. There is no stress and no obnoxious commercialism.
For me, though, Halloween has always had a special place in that part of my soul that remembers the wonder of being a kid. It’s the reason I though Trick r Treat was a great movie and the reason I think Something Wicked This Way Comes is an American classic. Halloween, more than Christmas, New Years, or any of the others was always my escape as a child. There were no boring religious events that a child is required to attend; no visiting grandma and her too hot house, or aunt Violet and her cat hair infused mashed potatoes. Halloween was about magic, about being a kid, about being thrilled at the prospect of being scared. Even if I never really got scared, the anticipation of the attempt was always spine tingling.
So this year my wife and I are hoping to have a little two person rekindling of the Halloween spirit. Last night we carved Jack O’ Lanterns. The first time for me in 23 years I believe.

I’m proud of mine. It’s on the right. There is something massive and masculine about it. My wife’s is on the left. Yeah, she’s the real artist (drew the PopBunker.net logo in a couple of minutes).
We also have Halloween cupcakes and will be making Rice Crispie treats for tonight. All things specifically from my childhood.
Last night we even made a two minute movie. Don’t expect anything. We were using our cyber-shot and not the GL2. It was a spur of the moment thing with no lighting (obvious), post, or anything else that we used to be in to.
This is the doll that “attacked” in the video above. We call her Moppet. Scary thing. Freaks me out on a daily basis.

We also have a “Scarecrow,” but I call him the Santa of the Opera. He was supposed to be a vampire.

We have a projector set-up for our Halloween Movie Marathon. Two movies are about as much as our old bones can take.

Not exactly original, but the fist Halloween has always been my favorite horror movie and I thought I could give the night a feel like that night in the movie by watching an old classic first, so the 1931 Boris Karloff Frankenstein streamed from Netflix will be our mood setter.
Merry Halloween Everyone!
